[Kirk catches Wash in the middle of a solid 10 minutes of concentration. He remembers, hazy, from his childhood, watching a cartoon that had a character who could control wind, and some of the things he could do with it. It's one of the few times Wash wishes he could remember more, but what he's got will have to do for now. He's taken to shaping the wind into a small, tightly rotating sphere that he can hold between his hands - or at least, that's what he's trying to do. He's only vaguely there, but it's a good exercise in concentration and control, and that'll work for now. He's going at it with the single-minded focus that benefits him in some situations and gets him run over by armored vehicles in others, and- well, at least there aren't any cars here.]
[He jumps when Kirk addresses him and drops focus completely, the loose, half-formed sphere between his hands dissipating in a puff of air. There's a moment of disorientation during shifting mental gears where his first reaction to Kirk's words is to reach for the pack of cigarettes he doesn't have because he quit smoking years ago- but that's not what Kirk's talking about. Right.]
